Your Consultations

What to expect

Your first consultation will take 60 minutes and is devoted to collecting a history from you and discussing your goals and expectations of working together.

As a dietitian, my role is to assess your nutrition needs, to determine the changes that may help you in managing your nutrition, health and weight gain during pregnancy, and to provide the education you need to do this.

We will discuss your current lifestyle, weight history, medical and family history, usual eating patterns and activity levels, and any nutritional challenges you are experiencing during pregnancy, such as morning sickness, digestive issues, low iron levels and insufficient or excess weight gain.

The aim of our first consultation is to provide you with the knowledge you need to make healthy and safe food choices for pregnancy, as well as managing your weight gain during pregnancy. If you have any other health conditions which may be impacted by nutrition, we will also address these.

In most cases, our first follow-up appointment will be booked after 2-4 weeks. In this consultation we will review your progress, answer questions you may have, and I will provide further education tailored to your needs. Follow-up appointments are usually 30 minutes long.

The number and frequency of further follow-up appointments will depend on your stage of pregnancy and any nutritional challenges you are experiencing during your pregnancy. Some women only need two or three appointments while in other cases we need more regular appointments to review and adjust your eating plan as your pregnancy progresses and also to discuss managing your diet following pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Consultation fees

Fees are $195 for the initial consultation and $100 for follow-up consultations. Fees are payable on the day of consultation by credit card (you will receive a link to pay online) or direct bank transfer.

Medicare and private health fund rebates

Rebates are available from most private health funds as part of ‘extras’ cover. Rebates vary according to the fund, your level of cover and whether it is an initial or follow-up appointment. Most health funds now provide rebates for telephone or video consultations but you may wish to check with your fund. We will provide you with a receipt to submit to your fund for a rebate.

Medicare also provides rebates for dietitians and diabetes educators for certain conditions and circumstances. To find out if you are eligible, speak with your GP who will need to complete a GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangement before your appointment and provide you with the relevant referral form. We don’t bulk bill so you will still need to pay the consultation fee on the day and we will provide you with a receipt to submit to Medicare to claim your rebate. The current Medicare rebate is $54.60 for both initial and review consultations.

Cancellation fees

If you cannot attend your appointment, please let us know by phone or email at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. We currently have a long waiting list for appointments and this will allow us to arrange another time for you and offer this appointment to someone else. If you miss an appointment or don’t provide us with at least 24 hours notice to cancel an appointment, a cancellation fee will be charged.
